ROSELAND, N.J. — The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) welcomed Christopher M. Lovasz, CPA, managing director at Deloitte & Touche LLP, as its president for the 2026/27 term, effective June 1. Lovasz replaced John M. Szczomak, CPA, member of the firm at Smolin, Lupin & Co., LLC.
Lovasz has supported the NJCPA since joining in 1998. A member of the Board of Trustees, a member of the Student Programs and Scholarship Committee since 2009, including two years as chairperson, and a past president of the NJCPA Scholarship Fund, Lovasz has helped drive important changes at the Scholarship Fund, including additional categories of awards. The NJCPA Scholarship Fund awards three types of scholarships to college-bound New Jersey high school seniors, college sophomores and college juniors majoring in accounting who are entering their senior year in college and/or planning to enroll in a graduate accounting program in New Jersey. He was also a 2022 NJCPA Ovation Award winner in the Impact category.
Lovasz has more than 30 years at Deloitte, with 24 years performing audit and attest work, spanning numerous industries, including technology, retail, construction and nonprofit. In 2018, he pivoted to mergers and acquisitions (M&A), where he currently serves private equity clients.
Lovasz lives in Wall Township with his wife, Alison, and children, Megan, Brendan and Ryan. He is a graduate of Lehigh University, with a B.S. in accounting.
As NJCPA president, Lovasz will focus on the need for young professionals and students to understand that accounting careers exist beyond just taxes, and the skillset needed for an effective career today overwhelmingly includes critical thinking, presentation, writing and interpersonal skills, not just knowledge mastery of the information. “It’s important to understand that accounting is not a destiny; it’s a journey,” he said.
“We are pleased to welcome Chris as president. We know he will do an outstanding job in connecting with our student members and inspiring the next generation of accounting professionals. His wit, energy and leadership will be well utilized at Society initiatives, events and programs,” said Aiysha (AJ) Johnson, MA, IOM, CEO and executive director at the NJCPA.
