Payment and settlement systems are mechanisms established to facilitate the clearing and settlement of trade, monetary and financial transactions. Traditional methods of paying for everything from everyday consumer items, to settling business-to-business (B2B) arrangements, and even cross-border transactions are being solidly challenged and substituted by a host of alternative payment methods, domestically and around the globe.
An alternative payment method (APM) is any way to pay for goods or services that doesn’t involve cash, checks or a debit or credit card. In recent years, APMs have grown in popularity — offering consumers and even financial institutions an assortment of ways to conduct and settle financial transactions — in order to keep up with demand.
This session will explore APMs — what they are and how they work, differentiators, and what lies ahead for us.
