OVERVIEW

Join this chapter chat to discuss the CARES Act, Business Alternative Income Tax (BAIT) and how to deal with the IRS and state agencies. Hear about pending tax legislation now before Congress and its possible implications.

HIGHLIGHTS

The first part of the meeting will be a “chat” or general discussion on the 2020 tax season. Attendees will discuss best practices for implementing provisions of the CARES Act and other legislation as well as experiences with New Jersey’s new Business Alternative Income Tax (BAIT) and unitary filling. Approaches for dealing with the IRS and state agencies will also be discussed.

The second part of the meeting will be a presentation by tax attorney Parag Patel on the implications of pending tax legislation now before Congress. The proposals could bring the largest overhaul of the tax system since the 1990s. Mr. Patel will share where he thinks Congress is headed and the impact on tax planning including gifting and asset sales.

He is a board certified estate planning law specialist, a board certified elder law attorney, and a frequent speaker on legal issues affecting tax, offshore tax planning and estate planning. Parag was named a New Jersey Super Lawyer by New Jersey Magazine for tax and estate planning. He has also received an AV rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating System, which is the highest professional rating possible among lawyers. He is the 2011/12 chairman of the Tax Law Committee of American Bar Association’s GP Solo and Small Firm Division. Parag also serves as a part-time municipal court judge for Edison Township. He is a member of the New Jersey State, New York State, Middlesex County and American Bar Associations.
