Core Skills to Build
- Technical & Regulatory Knowledge
Get a clear handle on federal, state, and local tax codes. Practice preparing returns until you’re accurate and confident. Don’t just stop there—keep looking up answers and researching issues as they come up.
- Technology Skills
Get to know your firm’s tax software and research tools. The more fluent you get with these, the smoother your workdays will go.
- Attention to Detail & Organization
Keep your workpapers and documentation organized, and don’t let deadlines sneak up on you. Quality always matters—double-check your work.
How to Grow
- Finish your CPA exams and keep your license up to date.
- Try to work on different kinds of tax projects. The more variety you see, the faster you’ll learn.
- Ask for feedback often. It’s the best way to level up your technical skills.
