New Jersey Society of CPAs Releases Updated Disaster Recovery Guide for Individuals and Businesses

ROSELAND, N.J. – Amid National Preparedness Month in the U.S. and a slew of recent global natural disasters, the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA) has published its updated Disaster Recovery Guide. The free guide provides a reminder for individuals and businesses on what steps should be taken to reconstruct records lost in a natural disaster, how to avoid fraud when documenting damages and what documents are best to keep on hand regarding tax implications.    

The guide is published annually with a list of emergency state and federal contacts, insurance websites and phone numbers throughout New Jersey and the Metropolitan area. This year’s guide includes revised IRS information, instructions on federally declared disaster sites and IRS locators throughout the U.S. It also provides updated data on insurance resources.    

“Experiencing disasters is not always something one can prepare for, but CPAs are some of the most knowledgeable professionals around when it comes to safeguarding an individual’s or business’s data,” said Aiysha (AJ) Johnson, MA, IOM, CEO and executive director at the NJCPA. “This handy guide should prove useful to understanding the various steps involved in replacing or documenting property or individual data in the event of a disaster.”
