Learn about career opportunities in accounting by hearing directly from people in the profession.

HIGHLIGHTS

This panel discussion will broaden your awareness of the different areas that accountants specialize. Four CPAs from the NJCPA Morris/Sussex Chapter will discuss their respective specialties, including the following:
  • A finance manager overseeing the accounting function at a privately held company
  • A principal in a public accounting firm specializing in corporate taxation
  • A director specializing in process improvements for a technology company
  • An engagement partner providing advisory and other services to business clients
The panelists will review their backgrounds and how they arrived at their current positions. They will provide examples of what helped them in their careers as well as missteps they could have avoided. In addition, attendees will have an opportunity to raise specific questions and seek career advice from the panelists.

The program is designed to give accounting students and CPA candidates “real world” insights into working in the various disciplines of professional accounting.

Olivia Campaniolo, CPA, CGMA, PSA, MBA, director of finance at World Insurance Associates LLC, has been a member of the NJCPA since 2003 and has been a member of the board of the Morris/Sussex Chapter since 2014. At World Insurance Associates, she focuses on financial reporting and planning. She is a member of the NJCPA Emerging Leaders and Accounting & Auditing Standards interest groups.

Nicole DeRosa

Nicole M. DeRosa is a tax partner with Wiss in Florham Park, NJ and has more than 15 years of public accounting experience, specializing in taxation for closely held businesses and individuals. In addition to working with clients in an array of industries, she was also an adjunct professor at Raritan Valley Community College, where she taught Tax Accounting for Individuals for four years.

Ms. DeRosa is a member of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants and is active on the Content Advisory Board and Federal Taxation Interest Group; she is currently a member of the Board of Trustees. In 2019, she was awarded the “Women to Watch” Ovation Award, which applauds the growth and success of female members for their leadership, potential, contributions, and commitment to fostering the success of their colleagues. In 2022, she was awarded the “Impact” Ovation Award, which recognizes those who exhibit exemplary efforts and stellar achievement in advancing the interests and needs of New Jersey’s accounting profession through active engagement, leadership, and advocacy. Ms. DeRosa was also named to the 2022 edition of the NJ BIZ Power 50 List for the third year in a row; this list accounts for the most influential men and women in the accounting profession that helps to keep the states’ business on track. In Nicole’s spare time, she enjoys staying active at the gym, volunteering at the local animal shelter, and is active in various charitable organizations, such as St. Jude.

Ms. DeRosa is a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, with degrees in accountancy and a Master of Science in Accountancy.

Christopher Martin

Chris Martin, Member of the Firm in the Accounting and Auditing Practice at SobelCo, has worked closely with mid-sized, privately-held businesses throughout his entire career. He adds value by assisting clients with their financial statement needs, providing strategic planning for their corporate and individual income taxes, and taking an active role in consulting on major financial decisions. Chris devotes a significant amount of his time specifically in SobelCo’s food and beverage practice where he manages financial statement audits, reviews, compilations, and income taxes for manufacturers, distributors, and supermarket owners in the tri-state area.

Since joining SobelCo in 2015, Chris has consulted with clients to help them gain an accurate understanding of their financial situation. Using clients’ internal information, along with industry benchmarks, Chris enables them to set strategic goals and make educated decisions, most specifically helping them monitor and improve their operations through forecasts and projections that can lead to greater efficiencies and profitability.

Carlos Mendez

Carlos Mendez, CPA, CIA, CGMA

Carlos is the managing director for Fusionworks, a technology and process advisory firm for midsized companies. He specializes in digital solutions, process improvements and risk management. Prior to joining Fusionworks he worked at MetLife assuming the position of Vice President for Global Internal Audit after serving as head of Global audit Policy and Chief Auditor for the Americas. He began his career with the international accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers working in the SEC Services Group and as a senior manager for the Assurance and Advisory Practice.

He earned an undergraduate degree in accounting as well as a law degree from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras.

Stacy Palmer

Stacy Palmer, CPA

Stacy L. Palmer is a Principal in the Business Tax practice at Untracht Early LLC and has been with the firm since 2006. Her areas of focus include both corporate and individual taxation. By understanding both the industries in which her clients operate and the unique industry and geographic-specific challenges their organizations face, Stacy is able to offer guidance on the tax planning opportunities available for each client she serves. Her deep understanding of individual taxation principles, laws, and regulations allows her to assist her corporate clients with related individual tax matters, as well.

Prior to joining Untracht Early, Stacy worked at a Big Four accounting firm as a member of the Internal Audit group and Tax department. This experience helps her work proactively with clients to ensure they prepare any necessary documentation properly so that they are in compliance with IRS standards.

In 2015, she was named to the Farleigh Dickinson University Silberman College of Business' 50 Under 50 list of top alumni business leaders under the age of 50. She was also recognized by the NJCPA as a 2021 Woman to Watch Ovation Award winner for her commitment to advancing the accounting profession and contributing to the success of her colleagues.

Stacy is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the American Woman’s Society of Certified Public Accountants. Additionally, she serves as a director on the board of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants’ Morris/Sussex Chapter.

She previously taught the Individual Taxation course as an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Additionally, she frequently presents at tax seminars sponsored by professional organizations including the Foundation of Accounting Education of the NYSSCPA and the NJSCPA.

Stacy received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Management Information Systems, both from the State University of New York at Albany. She also holds a Master of Science in Taxation from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Stacy is a licensed CPA in both New Jersey and New York.
