Social Security Considerations and the CPA
Stephanie Joy - Joy Disability The course will discuss many issues including:
- the damaging repercussions of reporting net income from self-employment or a family business under one person’s SS#
- review potential negative effects that can result when a tax return fails to sufficiently net out business expenses to a disability claimant or beneficiary
- the significant detriment that will often result from a worker delaying or refraining from filing for Social Security Disability once he becomes unable to work full time due to a medical impairment(s)
- review the interplay between SSD benefits and those of Long Term Disability, Workers Compensation, Unemployment Insurance as well as other offsets to SSD
- point out the need of workers to review their social security annual earnings statements each year, and the consequences of not doing so
- examine issues a worker faces when he has a disabled adult child, and what he can do now so his own social security insured status can protect that child who is unable to build his own work record for future social security insurance
