OVERVIEW

Understanding unconscious bias is key to creating an inclusive workplace and to making the best business decisions. This course explores the concept of unconscious bias, the science behind it, and how it can affect the way employers hire, evaluate, and treat employees. We will also discuss strategies employers can use to reduce unconscious bias and create a more inclusive workplace.

Ciana Williams, Esq., SPHR

In her role as Employment Counsel for MEA, Ciana advises employers and human resource professionals regarding compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including anti-discrimination and anti-harassment laws; the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA); the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); state wage and hour laws; and regulations promulgated by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the Department of Labor (DOL). She frequently speaks on various employment law topics, and in the wake of the #MeToo movement has shared her anti-harassment expertise on various panels and TV outlets. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, her career has included working as an attorney for Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC; Rubin, Fortunato & Harbison, P.C.; and Saul Ewing LLP. Ciana is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources. She is a former Member of the Hispanic National Bar Association, Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania, and American Bar Association; and is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
