HIGHLIGHTS

The State and Local Tax update will cover the following issues and topics. Impact on the Coronavirus to New Jersey and surrounding states. Also, a look at how New Jersey and surrounding states are treating the various provisions of the CARES act. How does remote employees quarantining in different states impact withholding requirements and nexus requirements in the different states. Update on New Jersey combined filing requirements and lastly Wayfair two years out from the decision.

Neil Becourtney, CPA, is a partner at CohnReznick. With expertise in representing clients facing tax examinations by the Internal Revenue Service, as well as state taxing authorities, he heads up the firm’s Tax Controversies Group. A regularly writer on tax subjects, Mr. Becourtney regularly monitors federal and state tax developments and frequently presents tax seminars. An active member of the New Jersey Society of CPAs (NJSCPA) for many years, Mr. Becourtney is a past chairperson of the NJSCPA New Jersey Taxation committee and is currently a member of its Editorial Advisory Board. Mr. Becourtney graduated from SUNY Albany in 1982 with a bachelor’s of science in accounting and earned a master’s of science degree in taxation from Pace University in 1986.

Mary Jo Dolson is a partner in the Tax and Business Services group. Ms. Dolson has been living and breathing state and local taxes her entire career. She has over thirty years of experience in SALT. She has worked in both industry and public accounting during her career so she understands the constraints clients have in addressing state and local tax issues. Ms. Dolson’s involvement in SALT covers all aspects of state and local taxes – income tax, payroll tax, sales/use tax, and unclaimed funds. With her experience gained both while in industry and public accounting, Ms. Dolson has probably handled SALT issues in every state. Ms. Dolson is often a speaker for the OSCPA and other outside organizations. She is also often an author of blogs and articles on different SALT issues both for the Firm and other outside trade organizations. Ms. Dolson’s experience covers all industry types from your typical manufacturer to todays SaaS providers.
