COSO provides the accounting profession’s definitive risk management standards, which it continues to update and refine. The COSO guidelines provide a strong foundation for assessing and mitigating risk. The latest standards help organizations design and implement internal controls, addressing both operational and compliance objectives. Following the guidelines does not guarantee you will never have risks, but it does increase the probability you will anticipate and mitigate risks before they occur. FASB has issued new standards for revenue and lease accounting that will go into effect soon. Some companies will have major revenue recognition changes.
