New Jersey Unemployment Claim Scam Emails

Many NJCPA members have reported that they and/or their clients have received scam emails about New Jersey unemployment claims. The emails ask the employer to verify employment for people that never worked for at the company or who are still employed.

The NJCPA Department of Labor Work Group met with the Employer Accounting Division of the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development last week. The Division is aware of the problem and has asked for those receiving the emails to report them by taking the following steps:

  1. Go to https://www.nj.gov/labor/
  2. Scroll to the bottom and click on "Unemployment Insurance" under "File A Claim" on the left.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and click on "Report Fraud" under "Employer Tools" in the center.
  4. One more click will take you to the form.
