Fraud and Tips on Fraud Prevention - Nonprofit
Review cases from 2014 Report to the Nations on Occupational Fraud and Abuse prepared by ACFE (Association of Certified Fraud Examiners). Discuss ways to bolster organizational controls. Interactive scenarios for each breakout group; followed by sharing ideas on controls which may prevent/detect fraud.

Nonprofit Update - Overview of FASB Proposal/ Exposure Draft and FASB Updates
Review a few FASB Updates such as going concern, and a section of related to revenues from contracts to customers (membership dues). Presentation on the FASB’s proposal for nonprofits; donor restricted net assets, changes in cash flow and liquidity measurements.

Lynn Albala, CPA, CMA, CGMA, is the chief financial officer of InfoSight Partners, LLC, a technology BI consulting firm. She has more than 30 years of experience and has held a variety of leadership roles for the organizations she has served. She is considered a thought leader in the world of nonprofit financial informational needs. A member of the New Jersey Society of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs and the IMA, she has and continues to serve in several leadership capacities for the New Jersey Society of CPAs. She was selected as a Women of Note by magazine in 2012. Ms. Albala is a graduate of Penn State University.

Kelly Kennedy-Ryu is a Manager of the Firm. She is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in New York, and has more than 20 years’ experience in public accounting. Kelly has experience in banking and leasing (Private). Kelly has an audit background in the construction, banking, not-for-profit, publishing, RIA, broker/dealers, foundations, trusts, real estate, and public/private school industries. She has assisted clients with implementing accounting standards, and financial reporting. Kelly is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a chairperson for the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants’ Nonprofit (former) and Operational Committees. Kelly concentrates on technical reviews of financial statements in a multitude of industries and related revenue recognition issues. She also plays a significant role in continuing professional education for Smolin through the development of seminars and courses. Kelly also monitors Smolin’s compliance with quality control standards, and supervises the peer review process. Kelly is a graduate of Manhattan College with a B.S. in Accounting. She practices out of our Fairfield, New Jersey office and resides in New Jersey.
